Today, I moved on to modelling the skin. The boolean operation is set at 30 degrees such that each pattern on each wall of the skin directs sun light into the space. This creates the desired "ripple" pattern in the volume.
This is the ripple texture map I made. It is a water image translated into a "stencil" black and white binary map. This geometry was then extruded, angled and cut through the walls.
Here is a close up of the pattern. It greatly increases surface area which has the benefit of assisting sea life should the water rise.
